SCCA Runoffs 2013 at Road America in Wisconsin

While in the Milwaukee area last weekend I drove out to Road America to catch a few hours of the SCCA National Championship Runoffs. I had not been to Road America before and heard it was an impressive facility. After driving around for 20 minute on the property I found out why everyone loves the place.

Elkhart Lake's Road America is huge. The course is a 4 mile long road course and the property that the track sits on is huge. I drove around and parked my car at various points along the race track to take some photos and watch some racing. There is plenty of pit parking, plus camping space for fans and competitors.

Look at that! While driving around in the morning I happened upon one of our car covers. It is a little old, but still doing the job.

Though the cars going around the track at the SCCA Runoffs were new, I did spot this Olds Rocket in the parking lot. It was pretty clean.

I spotted this old neon sign on the way back to Milwaukee. Along Highway 57 is the Midway Cafe. I did not eat there, but I am a fan of the old sign.

I had a lot of fun at Road America. Check back later this week for more highlights from my trip to Milwaukee, plus some great photos of vehicles from upcoming California Car Cover catalogs.

5th Annual Parking Lot Sale & Parts Exchange at California Car Cover

Our 5th Annual Parking Lot Sale and Parts Exchange took place this past Saturday. Each year we pull out a lot of our seasonal, open box or discontinued merchandise and set up a great one day sale for our local customers.

In addition, a handful of local customers participate by hosting a parts exchange in our parking lot where local enthusiasts and gearheads can swap parts and talk cars.

The parking lot sale is not an official car show at California Car Cover, but a lot of our local customers drive over their classic cars or hot rods each year. Here are photos of a few of the classics at our store this past Saturday.

If you were in the market for some folding chairs, collectible signs, front end bras or billet grilles, our sale was the place for you. We had pallets of merchandise up for sale. I don't know where we keep finding all of this stuff in our warehouse!

We had a few local customers set up in the parts exchange. There was plenty of car parts, automotive art and much more to check out.

Thank you to everyone that braved the heat and participated in this year's parking lot sale and parts exchange. We look forward to hosting the event again next year at California Car Cover.

Keep an eye out on the events page on the California Car Cover website for 2014 event details when they are available.

21st Annual Palos Verdes Concours d'Elegance 2013 Photos

This past weekend was the 21st Annual Palos Verdes Concours d' Elegance held at the Trump National Golf Club. The beautiful golf course in Rancho Palos Verdes is an ideal setting for a collection of concours worthy classic automobiles.

I had not attended the event before so I cruised down to RPV on Sunday to check out the event and see some customers who had vehicles on display. Here are some of my photos from the show.

A classic Chevy Corvette greeted us at the main entrance

Classic cars were parked throughout the holes adjacent to the club house. The cars were sorted by marquee and class.

There were quite a few European cars on display that were past competitors in the California Mille road rally.

I could not recall ever seeing a 1951 Jowett Jupiter. This convertible has some unique design details and attracted quite a crowd most of the day.

A Porsche out on the grass

There were a few restored road racing vehicles on display including a few Shelby race cars and this Datsun.

There were a lot of classic town cars and coaches. Concours events always attract a nice gathering of classic Packard, Rolls Royce and Hispano-Suiza automobiles.

Very nice Lincoln with dual side spares.

No concours d'elegance is complete without a group of magnificent Duesenberg Phaetons or Sedans like this 1933 Tourster.

This 1929 Bentley 4.5 Liter Tourer is all black but has a body that is partially wrapped in fabric.

This 1923 McFarlan Model 154 Knickerbocker Cabriolet was brought out by the staff of the Nethercutt Museum. Check out the awning that came out of the back.

There were a few American luxury cars on display. There was a nice collection of Lincoln, Buick and Chrysler vehicles at the show.

When is the last time you saw a 1948 Playboy? I could not recall ever seeing one, but it was a cool little convertible.

A very nice 1954 Buick Skylark Convertible

Here is a pair of 1958 GM cousins. A 1958 Buick Limited convertible next to a 1958 Chevy Impala convertible.
This Chrysler New Yorker Wagon was pretty cool.

There were plenty of classic Chevy Corvette and Ford Thunderbird vehicles on display at the Palos Verdes Concours. Since the Corvette is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year there were quite a few 1950's-60s Vettes at the show.

Vintage Beverly Hills Fire Engine

A small, but nice display of vehicles was the Vintage American Speed exhibit. It showcased some nostalgic Bonneville race cars.

Another small class was the Facel Vega category which had a handful of coupes and sedans.

I had a great morning at the car show. Check back for blog coverage next week for photos of the SCCA event at Road America in Wisconsin. It is my first time attending that event, so it should be a fun weekend in the Milwaukee area.
